Springboro Fall Sports Update.
The football team travels to Centerville Friday night. This is a huge game. A win by the Panthers opens the door wide open for a trip to the playoffs. A loss doesn’t slam the door shut, but leaves little or no room for error the rest of the season.
The Elks can score in bunches, so Springboro’s defense will need to continue to make big plays. Penalties must be eliminated. A low scoring game helps us. My prediction? A 17-14 upset win or a 28-10 loss.
The Girls tennis team has been busy this week. Yesterday they defeated a tough Alter team 4-1 and shut out Fairborn 5-0 Tuesday. On Monday, they won a Doubles Invitational at Beavercreek.
The Boys golf team, coached by Brad Smith, has been just as busy this week. Yesterday they defeated West Carrollton 150-180 and Tuesday they beat Fairborn 147-175. This is a very deep and talented squad. Currently, (and unofficially), the three players with the lowest averages are Matt Kern, Alex Elger and Jack Ford. The JV team, coached by Matt Howard, is also off to a great start.
The Girls soccer team lost yesterday by Beavercreek 3-0. However, they did beat Sidney on Saturday, 4-1. Panther players in the GWOC Top 50 in scoring include Kelly Williams, Sarah Hawk, Madison Swartz, Ashley Woolpert, Lauryn Shrout and Livi Raflik. Caroline McHenry and Hallie Willenbrink are also in the Top 100.
I realize I have omitted many other sports. We’ll update them over the weekend.
