American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Springboro

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature activity and the 11th annual Relay For Life of Springboro is going to be a terrific community event.  The Event is scheduled May 22-23, 2010 at North Park in Springboro.  The whole community is invited to come out and celebrate with the 33 teams and 317 participants who have signed up to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
The Springboro Relay will open at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22 and close at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 23.  These are some of the highlights open to teams and the community.
The opening ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m. featuring the Springboro High School choir and Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and honoring the invited cancer survivors with a special lap around the track.  This is followed by the introduction of teams and the team lap while the cancer survivors attend a special reception.
Throughout Relay, the entertainment chair, Shawn Huey and his team will facilitate free games such as a scavenger hunt, shaving cream hair-do, and a corn-hole tournament.  Stage Entertainment will include Dustin Vincent and Darren Nobel – both are acoustic guitarists – as well as games such as “Minute to Win It” and “Fear Factor”.  There will be special activities for the team laps such as the limbo lap, the Do-Si-Do lap, the Michael Jackson moonwalk lap, and the YMCA lap.
Special fundraising activities include teams selling food and drink - hot dogs, water, coffee, snow cones, walking tacos, and baked goodies.  Other teams will be selling glow stix, paper flowers, and the Springboro High School Leo Club will sponsor a “Jail ‘n Bail” for a donation.
There will be a Silent auction with more than 25 different baskets or items for the bidding.  The Silent auction will be open from 3:00 – 10:30 p.m. after the luminaria ceremony.
The moving Remember ceremony where luminaria light up the track to honor those who are fighting cancer and those we have lost to cancer will begin about 9:15 p.m.  Luminaria can be purchased from opening until just before the ceremony.
Activities will continue through the night and will culminate with the closing ceremony beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The sponsors for this year’s event include Lebanon Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, the Dayton Motor Cycle Club, Coldwell Banker (Springboro), All The Right Tunes, and Teradata Corporation.
